Placing the Order

Needless to say this is a very important step in the whole process. Here are some guidelines to help avoid some of the potential pitfalls.

Am I ready to place the order?

  • As mentioned before try to allocate some time where you won’t be rushed.
  • It’s good to have anyone who is involved in the decision making present for this important step.
  • Have a list prepared of anything you’d like included in the order.

What you should expect

  • The first thing we do upon arriving at a customer’s home to write up an order is sit down, more often than not at the kitchen table and answer all the little questions most people still have. Remember, there are NO stupid questions and this is your last time to ask. Yes, Superior Home Improvements windows do have screens to keep the bugs out!
  • Next we like to walk around the house and now it’s our turn to ask you some questions, such as which side you’d like a window to open or hinge locations on a door. Colour options

will also be discussed, all the small details that NEED to be on the order. “Would you like that bathroom window frosted

so your neighbour 6ft away can’t see right in?”
  • Once everything has been covered then it’s time for the rep to write up the order. If questions still come to mind then of course you can ask but it helps to allow the rep a few minutes to write the order in peace if possible. Things can be left off of an order by mistake and chances are you would never know because there is simply too much information the customer isn’t aware of. When distracted it’s possible to omit something that seems minor, but can result in costly mistakes.
  • The contract should be as detailed as possible so there are no misunderstandings.
  • Always, always, always, the contract should be read to you before asking you to go over it a second time yourself, just to ensure once again that there are no mistakes.

What you should not expect

  • Any order dealing with renovations on your home needs to be dealt with in person and on the job site. Not over the phone or via E-mail. There are too many details that can be missed.
  • If an order is pre-written then it becomes a lot easier to miss small but important details.
  • If you are proceeding with a renovation in stages for whatever reason, then don’t accept any pressure to undertake the whole project. If a company has faith in their products, service and staff, then there isn’t any need to pressure the homeowner. You will come back to us in the future when you are ready for more work.
  • Don’t sign anything that is simply too vague without all the details such as hinging, venting, colour, type of glass, estimated delivery time, product line name, etc. We could go on and on. Many times in the past we have seen contracts signed with other companies that state things like, “To supply vinyl windows”! You could end up with some cheap, low end window sitting at the bottom of your driveway. Installation must be mentioned as well as removal of job debris also.
  • Never pay more than 25% as a deposit. Again, the line up of people who have handed over large deposits only to never see the company again is long.

The list of things to look out for during this process is vast. Most people simply can’t possibly protect themselves if they are dealing with an unscrupulous company. Apply commonsense to the whole process. Do not be afraid to ask for anything you feel you need to be comfortable. We will bend over backwards to earn your trust.
